    Description

Up for auction is my 1980 Suzuki GN400 Custom Cafe Racer. This is a one off bike covered with original ideas and handmade parts. It all comes together to make a bike with great fit and finish. The bike has great ergonomics and will fit a large range of rider heights. I'm 5'10 and there is plenty of room for a taller rider. The motor has a lot of torque and will cruise at highway speeds with no problem. - Here is a list of most of what has been done. - The frame has been stripped down with anything unnecessary removed and a complete subframe and shock mounts have been fabricated from quality materials. - For the front suspension I fitted a triple clamp from a Can AM MX400 and then used forks from a Yamaha XS650 with preload adjusters and then added a really nice vintage gold anodized fork brace. I carefully re-moved the left caliper mounts since the bike is plenty light enough that a second disc isn't needed. - For the rear suspension I took a 1985 Kawasaki GPZ550 swingarm and narrowed the front and installed new needle bearings. I milled shock mounts from aluminum plate and then tig welded them on to the swingarm and added modern gas shocks with preload and rebound adjustment. - The wheels are from a mid seventies Yamaha XS650. These are the aluminum shouldered rims. I tore them down, cleaned and polished the hubs and rims and laced and trued them with brand new spokes and nipples. They got new bearings and seals and the back was converted to a 17mm axle to fit up with the swingarm. All spacers were hand machined from aluminum. New Duro tires were fitted up front and rear with new Bridgestone tubes and new rim strips. - The brakes are XS650, the front caliper was cleaned polished and rebuilt and a new stainless steel line installed. The master cylinder is the stock GN400. New pads on the front and new shoes on the back. The rear brake is converted to cable operated from the original rod operated. This fits around the exhaust better. - The exhaust is made from a custom header with larger ID than stock. The header closely follows the underneath centerline of the bike and snakes around the oil filter allowing easy oil changes. The pipe then comes up right behind the right rearset and goes to a beautiful NOS Supertrapp I had been saving for a worthy project. This bike sounds great! - The motor has been cleaned and serviced, valves adjusted, has good compression. A couple seals were replaced. It doesn't leak or smoke, starts easy and really pulls this lightened up bike along very well. - The airbox is handmade and tig welded from aluminum and is very light. It has a baffle inside it and at the top is a two stage Uni Filter foam element that is super easy to service. - The rear cowling is a work of art. It is handmade also, It contains the 6v battery and serves as a junction for the wiring for rear lighting and the single fuse. It has threaded mounts tig welded to the base and attaches with 4 stainless bolts that are easily accessed. This GN400 has a modern aftermarket CDI box as the stock boxes are prone to fail with age.- The stock carb has been replaced with a Mikuni VM34 and has been jetted for the bike and works great. Performance is spot on and starts easy hot or cold. The rearsets and foot pegs are handmade and adjustable and considerable time went into getting them positioned just right on the bike. - This bike has a clean simple GPS speedometer odometer that sits in a handmade aluminum cowling. - The seat is all handmade, it has a nice aluminum pan covered with felt, the foam is hand sculpted and then covered with a modern gripper type cover. Thanks for looking!
