    This stunning miniature lacquer box was hand painted in Palekh style. It features an orphan girl meeting a young man in a winter forest. The man turned out to be a month of April, who was able to help the poor girl. The maiden's heartless stepmother gave her an impossible task of finding spring flowers for Christmas. The scene is based on the Russian fairy tale of "Twelve Months."  The box is initialed by an artist.
